Dear Senator [Name],
Having attempted to reach your office by phone and failed due to busy lines and a full voicemail box on your end, I am writing to encourage you to vote (and speak out) against harmful legislation like PIPA and SOPA.
While the entertainment lobby insists that it would prevent piracy and protect American jobs, there is plentiful evidence that not only is piracy a much less significant problem than they claim, but legislation like PIPA and SOPA could cause significant collateral damage among legitimate websites and organisations.
In my relatively brief time in the workforce, I have worked as an IT consultant and a technical writer. If you have any questions concerning the reasons PIPA and SOPA would be ineffective and harmful, I would be happy to speak to you or put you in touch with others even more informative than I can be.
So that there can be no misunderstanding between us, I would like to make it quite clear that any chance of receiving my vote in the future is contingent upon your opposition to harmful legislation like PIPA and SOPA. In the meantime, I remain
Your interested constituent,
