I see what you did there, & I don’t like it. I mean really.
(If I suddenly disappear as of midnight we can probably guess I’ve been detained for saying NDAA is very ‘1984’-ish.)
His signing statement includes this gem:
Moreover, I want to clarify that my Administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a Nation. My Administration will interpret section 1021 in a manner that ensures that any detention it authorizes complies with the Constitution, the laws of war, and all other applicable law.
Well, good. That’s good. I’m glad your administration feels that way. What about a Romney administration? How do you think they’ll interpret it? Or a Gingrich administration? A Santorum administration?
The only correct move was to veto this bill and show a willingness to vigorously defend the Constitution and the rights it grants to American citizens. And President Obama did not make that move.
