This is the first time I’ve read one of these missives and agreed with pretty much the whole thing. The real takeaway is that there are relatively few people of any gender and orientation who are capable of maintaining a long-term relationship, and falling in love (or obsession) with people who “need your help” does really bad things to your chances of finding one of them. As usual, there’s a simple solution—the one at the heart of everything, in fact:
Love who you are. Do what you want to do. Ask for what you need.
In a sentence, be who you want to be.
