Fleeting moments of internet interest.

“Good morning.”

“Ugh. You know it’s not.”

“Come on, work with me here. Some forms should be observed.”

“No. If it were morning, I’d be burned to a crisp already.”

“Sounds like someone woke up on the wrong side of the hibernation chamber today.”

Silence. The crackle of radiation over an interplanetary link. Then:

“Are you serious, Station Five?”

“Hmmm?”

“Are you serious?”

“What are you talking about?”

“I just got the most mysterious message on my longcomm.”

“Oh yeah?”

“The longcomm which is strictly to be used for messaging with Earth in the event of a Pon’rhi invasion or other significant interstellar event.”

“Yes?”

“The longcomm which is under no circumstances to be used for personal ends, because the safety of humanity itself is at stake.”

“Yes, I know the one. Must be an important message. What does it say?”

“It reads, in full, and I quote: ‘Good morning.’”

Silence. A snort, followed by uncontrollable laughter over an interplanetary link. Then:

“I hate you, Station Five.”

A silly idea I had on waking up today.
