DuckDuckGo →
My new favourite search engine. Excellent results (better than Google in some cases), no user tracking, lets you choose the results typeface, and asks what you mean when it’s not sure. There’s more, but I’ll let you find it for yourself.

The Xth Parallel
In Star Wars: LUKE: No, my father didn’t fight in the wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter. BEN: That’s what your uncle told you. He didn’t hold with your father’s ideals. Thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved. LUKE: You fought in the Clone Wars? BEN: Yes, I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father. LUKE: I wish I’d known...

Typekit » Chennai Slab →
Looking at this font, I had the urge to call it “you weird-ass Comic Sans-lookin’ slab serif motherfucker”. I’m not sure which part of this is the most troubling: that I wanted to talk to a typeface, that I sounded like a character from Pulp Fiction, or that “Comic Sans-lookin’” is one of the worst insults I can come up with.

Thursday Night Win
I just spent some time naked in a thunderstorm for the sheer wild beauty of it. If your Thursday night has not yet risen to at least that level of awesomeness, you should probably go do something about that.

Miriam Rothenberg: My gamble paid off. I joined a group that appreciates my idiosyncrasies, and accepts me all the more for them. I have become a more confident person as a result of living on Hall and interacting with the characters here. I have even managed to pull my GPA up, despite the constant distraction of friends, because of the support that these friends have given me. It has been a great...

The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu →
I figured the photo of the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu that’s been making the rounds today had to come from somewhere, so I went looking. Turns out it was an “Interspiritual Panel Discussion” at the University of Washington. Oh—and did I mention that you can watch all of it? Go ahead and click on that link up there. The rest of the world can wait.

A Trip to Misery
I can’t remember where I’ve been, but I’m back again. The mist in the air and the grey of the trees are proof enough of that. I don’t need proof, though; this place is hard to forget once you’ve been here. The houses below the hill I’m on are nearly identical, winding in congruent lockstep down the suburban lanes below. Going down there is dangerous; staying where I am now would be suicide. At...
